Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry, down eye, 12-16
  • Thread Cream/pale yellow 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Lemon wood duck flank Wood duck (for tail and wings)
  • Goose/turkey biot Cream/pale yellow goose turkey biot (1 (abdomen))
  • Fine dubbing Cream laser dub (1 pinch (thorax))
  • Dry-fly hackle Light ginger dry fly hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread mid-shank; tie in upright wood duck wings at the 70% mark, split and post them with figure-8 wraps.
  2. Wrap to the bend and tie in a sparse ginger tail one shank length long.
  3. Bind in a cream biot by the tip and wrap it forward in slightly overlapping turns to build a crisply segmented abdomen, stopping at the 65% mark.
  4. Dub a small cream thorax up to the wings.
  5. Tie in a light ginger hackle and wind 2-3 turns behind and 2-3 in front of the wings; tie off.
  6. Clear the eye, build a small head, whip finish, and cement.
