Wax the Fl. Red thread for extra purchase and lay a base back to above the hook point, no further.
Strip the fibres off one end of the Sunburst UV Gel Core Fritz to expose the bare core. Tie it in above the hook point and bind the core forward to the front, back, and forward again, concentrating the last wraps just behind the eye to build a slight bump. This gives an orange underbody that sometimes shows through.
Wrap the Fritz forward, every turn tight against the last, stroking the fibres back as you go and untwisting the strand each time round since every turn adds a twist. Stop leaving a little room at the front, stroke everything back, tighten down and cut off the Fritz. Take a few wraps back over the front of the body to train the fibres rearward.
Choose a Dyed Yellow Teal flank feather with plenty of black barring and strip off all the under-fluff. Expose the very tip, stroke the remaining fibres back to leave a V-notch, and tie the feather in by that tip. Wrap back over the stem and trim.
Take two turns of teal, let go and check how many legs it gave you, then add one or two more turns until it looks right. Tie off, snip the stem at its centre, and pull free any fibres that got trapped.
Stroke all the legs back and build a fairly prominent orange-red head. It is meant to be a hot spot.
Two whip finishes, then a quick melt to clear any stray fibres from the eye.
