Classic Recipe

  • Hook Salmon single/double, 6-12
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Tail GP crest (small)
  • Body Flat silver (smooth)
  • Rib Oval silver (fine)
  • Wing Blue-dyed squirrel or fox (sparse)
  • Hackle Blue hackle (collar)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the salmon single or double and run thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small golden pheasant crest as a tail, curving up.
  3. Catch in the fine oval silver rib, then wrap a smooth flat silver body forward to one-third behind the eye.
  4. Spiral the oval silver rib forward in 5 even turns, tie off and snip.
  5. Tie in a sparse bunch of blue-dyed squirrel or fox as a wing over the top, tips to the bend.
  6. Tie in a blue hackle and take 2 turns as a front collar, sweeping the fibres back.
  7. Build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
