How to tie it
Slide a bead onto the hook and set it behind the eye, then put the hook in the vise. A magnetic fuse-clip style bead holder makes this much easier at this size.
Start the red thread and lay a thread base back to the back of the bend, wrapping until the thread is almost parallel with the eye: that's how you know you're in the middle of the bend. Bring the thread forward and throw a half hitch.
Tie in a very short piece of Laser Wrap at the rear.
Bring the thread forward to the bead, grab the Laser Wrap in hackle pliers and wrap it forward in touching turns. As each turn goes on, the bright edge buries down inside and forms its own rib.
Bring the material up behind the bead, snug the thread down over it with three or four good wraps, and cut it off. The fly is fishable as is at this point.
For the halo, lay a small tuft of dubbing across the top of the hook behind the bead, take a loose wrap around it so it starts to spin, and walk the dubbing around the shank; pull the dubbing back to lock it in place so it flares as a halo over the front.
Brush the halo fibers out so they are lively, then trim them to length.
Finish with a neat red thread collar behind the bead, whip finish, and add a drop of head cement.
