How to tie it
Start the thread near the bend, well back on the shank, leaving the whole front half bare. Tarpon flies are tied back on the hook so the collar stays clear of the eye.
Pair the saddle hackles back to back in two splayed sets and tie them in at the rear as a tail about two shank lengths long, curving outward.
Add a few strands of pearl and gold flash along each side of the tail.
Select two or three webby saddle hackles and tie them in by the butts just in front of the tail.
Wind the hackles forward as a full, soft collar covering the front third of the shank, stroking the fibers back as you wrap, then tie off.
Build a smooth thread head, whip finish, and coat the head with epoxy or UV resin for durability.
