Start black thread at the front of the hook. Tie in a few fibres of White Z-Yarn at the front and bind the yarn back to the bend. Trim the yarn at the bend to about half a shank length; this is the scraggly part of the trailing shuck.
Lay a Grizzly Hackle tip on top of the shank so it hangs about one shank length off the back, centred on top of the shank, and spiral the thread forward. This is the longer, trailing part of the shuck.
Clean a small bunch of Natural Deer Hair of fuzz and short fibres, about a dozen to twenty fibres. Tie it in at the front of the hook, tips rearward, keeping it centred on top of the shank, and bind it all the way back to the bend so no thread peeks through. Spiral the thread forward to about three quarters of the shank.
Draw the deer hair up and pull it forward over the top of the shank, keeping it on top so it does not roll to either side. Secure it with two or three tight wraps, then a couple more through the hair itself. Trim the butts, add a couple more wraps, and snip out any trapped fibres.
Measure a Grizzly Rooster Cape or Saddle feather so the barbs hang just past the hook point. Tie it in right in front of the deer hair, trim the stem and drop the thread at the eye. Wrap a dense hackle forward, tie off, trim any stray fibres and whip finish.
