How to tie it
Start thread behind the eye and tie in a pair of dumbbell eyes on the shank, leaving one full eye-length of bare shank behind the hook eye for the weed guard later. X-wrap them very secure. These are the weight and ride point-up.
Wrap back to the bend and tie in a pair of black mono bead eyes with X-wraps, set slightly around the bend so they will protrude when the fly is flipped over; touch with super glue front and back.
Tie in pink Cactus Chenille at the bend and figure-eight it around the mono eyes, then a wrap or two more, to build the crab's head and a hot spot; tie off and trim.
Make the claws: cut two half-inch pieces of white rabbit zonker. On each, split the fur tip into two, wet and spin each half to a point, then coat with UV resin in two coats and cure to form a rigid two-part claw.
Tie the two finished claws in at the head end (near the bend) splayed apart.
Build the carapace: tie in bundles of tan body material (EP fibers or craft fur) top and bottom to form the flat crab body, working toward the dumbbell eyes.
Tie in several barred rubber legs splayed to the sides.
Tie in a mono weed guard loop in the bare space behind the hook eye, build a neat head, whip finish and cement. Give the whole fly a once-over with super glue at stress points.
