Krueger's Mardi-Craw

Streamer · Smallmouth Bass · Largemouth Bass · Carp · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 60-degree jig or 4X streamer hook, 4-6
  • Thread Olive 6/0

Materials

  • Brass dumbbell eyes Gold dumbbell eyes (1 pair, large)
  • Marabou Olive or tan marabou (tail)
  • Flash Copper/gold flashabou (few strands)
  • Silicone legs (barred) Olive/orange cone head (2 pairs)
  • Variegated chenille Olive/orange variegated chenille (body)
  • Saddle hackle Brown saddle hackle (palmered)

How to tie it

  1. Bind large brass dumbbell eyes near the front of the shank so the hook rides point-up like a fleeing crayfish.
  2. At the bend tie in a marabou tail with a few strands of flash, about a shank long. This waves forward as the 'claws' when stripped.
  3. Add a pair of barred silicone legs at the tail, splayed.
  4. Tie in variegated chenille and a saddle hackle by the tip at the bend.
  5. Wind the chenille forward to the eyes, then palmer the hackle back through it in 5-6 open turns and tie off at the eyes.
  6. Add a second pair of silicone legs at the head with figure-8 wraps, then figure-8 chenille or dubbing around the eyes.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and cement.
