Mossy Creek Fly Fishing dressing

  • Hook TMC5263 or any regular 3x or 4x long streamer hook, 4
  • Thread Danville's Flat Waxed Nylon

Materials

  • Eyes Hareline Double Pupil Lead Eye Large
  • Tail Eastern Trophy Crittermite Tails Black Sz. 4
  • Legs Round Rubber Legs Medium-Black

How to tie it

  1. Bind black lead dumbbell eyes on top of the shank a short way back from the eye (they flip the fly to ride hook-up); figure-8, lock, and glue.
  2. Start at the bend and lash the CK Crittermite ultrasuede tail flat on top, trailing about a shank length; soak the wrap with glue.
  3. Tie in a pair of round rubber legs at the tail, splayed.
  4. Build a segmented body of dubbed body fur (or chenille) forward, adding a second pair of rubber legs at the midpoint with figure-8 wraps.
  5. Bring the body up to the eyes, then figure-8 dubbing around and in front of them.
  6. Whip finish behind the hook eye, pick out the body for a buggy hellgrammite look, and trim the legs to length.
