Kraft's Baitfish

Streamer · Trout · Smallmouth Bass · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap streamer hook (B10S), 1-4
  • Thread White Flat waxed nylon

Materials

  • Lead-free wire - (.025, optional)
  • CK Baitfish tail (ultrasuede) Tan carapace (1, tail)
  • CCT Body Fur brush Tan carapace (body)
  • Super glue - (as needed)

How to tie it

  1. Optional: lay a band of lead-free wire along the shank and bind it for a touch of weight and a level swim.
  2. Start thread at the bend. Bind the CK Baitfish ultrasuede tail flat on top of the shank so it trails one to one-and-a-half shanks; saturate the wrap with super glue for indestructibility.
  3. Tie in the tip of a CCT Body Fur brush at the tail.
  4. Wrap the body-fur brush forward in touching turns to just behind the eye, stroking the fibers back after each wrap so they lie down and taper.
  5. Tie off, whip finish, and build a small thread head.
  6. Sweep all the fibers back and trim the body fur to a tapered baitfish profile (fuller at the head, sparse at the tail) then cement the head.
