How to tie it
Run the ash silk from behind the eye to above the barb, then forward two-thirds.
Twist a wisp of dark heron-substitute herl onto the silk and wind a slim dark body over the rear two-thirds of the shank.
Tie in a small black cock hackle at the tail and palmer it forward over the body in open turns to represent the paired 'knotted' midges, then secure at the head.
Tie in a strand of magpie herl and make two turns for a small dark head, then tie off.
