How to tie it
Start the thread about an eye-length behind the eye and tie in the small olive wire, keeping it exactly parallel with the top of the shank so it does not spiral underneath: any wandering will show once the body is wrapped.
Bind the wire back along the shank, bring the thread back up toward the eye and throw a half hitch to hold it out of the way.
Wrap the wire forward in touching turns, keeping tension back against the previous wrap each time you come around the shank so the turns stay tight. If you get a small gap it won't matter to the fish. Wrap up to just behind the eye.
Capture the wire with the tying thread and either helicopter it off or clip it with fingernail clippers.
Dub a small ball of peacock green Crystal Dub with about a one inch noodle, leaving a little space between it and the eye.
Tie in a small pinch of wood duck flank on top as an underwing, about one shank length, and trim the excess.
Prepare a starling feather by stroking the tip fibers back to leave a small triangle, and tie it in by the tip. Grip the stem with hackle pliers and take two to two and a half or three turns, being very gentle on the first turn or two since the stem is fragile.
Take a wrap behind the feather and one in front, then clip the excess stem.
Pull everything back, form a neat thread head, and whip finish.
