Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved klinkhammer/scud hook, 12-16
  • Thread Tan 8/0

Materials

  • Poly yarn White poly yarn (upright post)
  • Superfine dubbing Tan dubbing (abdomen)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (1-2 strands, thorax)
  • Dry hackle Ginger hackle (4-5 turns)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread mid-shank and tie in an upright post of white poly yarn; post it with thread wraps around the base to stiffen it.
  2. Run thread down and around the curve of the hook to the start of the bend.
  3. Dub a slim, tapered abdomen up the bend to just short of the post.
  4. Tie in a peacock-herl strand and a ginger dry hackle by the stem at the base of the post.
  5. Wind the herl into a fat thorax around the post.
  6. Wind the hackle parachute-style, 4-5 turns down the post, and secure it under the thorax.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye, keeping the eye clear, and add a tiny drop of cement to the post base.
