KJ Mirage Cormorant

Dry Fly · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wet fly / lure hook, 10-12
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Marabou Black marabou (1 slim plume, wing/tail)
  • Mirage / opal tinsel Pearl flashabou (body)
  • Mirage flash Pearl flashabou (few strands, cheeks)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread at the eye and run a smooth base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a slim black marabou plume for the wing/tail, one shank long, and keep it sparse. Half the marabou you think.
  3. At the bend bind in a strand of mirage/opal tinsel.
  4. Wind the tinsel forward in touching turns to the 80% mark for a flashy body and tie off.
  5. Tie two or three strands of mirage flash along each side as short cheeks, reaching a third of the way back down the body.
  6. Build a small neat black head, whip finish, and varnish.
