Materials

  • Tungsten bead Gold bead (1, optional)
  • Hare's mask dubbing Natural hare s ear dubbing (body and thorax)
  • Wire rib Fluoro orange mono (hot rib)
  • Hare's mask guard fibers Natural hare s ear dubbing (short tuft, tail)

How to tie it

  1. Optional: slide a gold bead to the eye. Start thread and lay a base back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short tuft of hare's-mask guard fibers for the tail, about one hook-gap long.
  3. Bind in a length of fluoro-orange wire for the hot rib and leave it hanging at the bend.
  4. Dub a slim, slightly tapered abdomen of natural hare's-ear dubbing over the back two-thirds. Use half the dubbing you think you need.
  5. Counter-wrap the wire rib forward in 5-6 open, evenly spaced turns to segment the body, then helicopter off the tag.
  6. Dub a fatter, scruffier thorax, then pick it out with a dubbing brush so guard hairs stick out as legs. Buggy beats tidy here.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
