Deer body hair Natural deer hair (collar and spun head)
How to tie it
Lay 10-15 wraps of lead-free wire over the middle of the shank, shove them back, and bind them down so the fly swims level. Start thread behind the eye and cover the wire.
At the bend tie in a short pinch of pearl Krystal Flash, tail no longer than half a shank.
Slide pearl mylar tubing over the shank, bind the rear at the bend and again two-thirds up the shank, and trim the waste. This is the flashy body.
Cut the front tip of an olive rabbit strip to a point, part the fur, and lash the strip on top so the tail extends one shank length past the bend; a drop of cement locks the hide.
Stop at the 70% mark. Spin a small clump of deer body hair for a collar, letting the tips sweep back to the hook point.
Spin two more clumps of deer hair for the head, packing each tight against the last with your fingers or a hair packer.
Whip finish, then trim the head to a rounded muddler bullet, flat on the bottom, leaving the collar tips as a beard.
