  • Hook 2XL-3XL nymph hook, 4-10
  • Thread Black 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Lead-free wire Silver lead free wire (10-12 wraps)
  • Goose biots Brown goose biots (2 for tail)
  • Peacock herl Natural peacock herl (4-6 strands)
  • Flat gold tinsel Gold oval tinsel (rib)
  • Hen or soft hackle Brown hen hackle (1 feather)
  • Goose biots White goose biots (2 for wing)

How to tie it

  1. Wrap 10-12 turns of lead-free wire over the mid-shank of this oversized hook and start the thread over it to lock it in place.
  2. Tie in two brown goose biots at the bend, splayed into a V as tails, one hook-gap long.
  3. Bind in the flat gold tinsel rib, then twist 4-6 strands of peacock herl into a rope and wrap a full, plump body forward to the 80% mark.
  4. Spiral the gold tinsel forward in 4-5 even turns over the herl body and tie off, the rib both segments and armors the fragile herl.
  5. Wind a brown soft-hackle collar of 2-3 turns and sweep the fibers back and down as a throat/legs.
  6. Tie two white goose biots flat over the back in a shallow V, tips reaching about to the hook point. The signature Prince wing.
  7. Build a neat head, whip finish, and cement.
