Mount a 90-degree jig hook and attach pink thread behind the eye.
Tie in medium lead dumbbell eyes on the inside of the 90-degree bend with figure-eight wraps until solidly secured, then add a drop of glue to lock them in place.
Wrap the thread back along the shank to the tail tie-in point above the barb.
Tie in a tail of 20-25 strands of black/blue/green Flash-a-bou a little longer than the hook using a pinch wrap, and cut the butts as straight as possible (this same flash will reappear on the wing).
Over the flash, tie in a blood/wooly-bugger marabou feather by the tip with a pinch wrap; instead of trimming it, lay the rough butt of the feather forward along the shank as an underbody and bind it down (this also locks the tail so it can't pull out).
Tease out the fibers of a large peacock cactus chenille to expose the core, tie the bare core in at the tail base with five or six firm wraps, and advance the thread forward.
Hand-palmer the cactus chenille forward, teasing the fibers back on each successive wrap for a fuller silhouette, up to the front; tie off with three or four wraps and trim.
Trim all the stubs, then build a collar, whip finish and cement.
