Start the black thread at the rear of the shank. Pull off a bunch of red saddle hackle fibers and secure them as the tail with a couple of turns, letting the hanging bobbin hold the material in place while you work.
Add the extra-fine gold tinsel with one turn to hold it, then the green floss with one turn to hold it.
Grab all the material butts, lift them up along the shank and bind everything down on top of the hook, then bring the thread forward to the head.
Wrap the green floss forward, smoothing it as you go and continually pulling on it to take the twists out so it lies flat and unlumpy. Tie it off and trim.
Spiral the gold rib forward in even turns, tie off and clip.
Tie in a small bunch of red saddle hackle fibers underneath as the throat.
Tie in a slip of yellow-dyed mallard flank as the wing, left deliberately fluffy rather than smoothed and married, so it moves in the water.
Build a small head, whip finish, and add a drop of head cement.
