Hook Standard midge/emerger hook, #20
Thread Black 8/0 Uni
Materials
Wire underbody Silver wire (A short length, extra small)
Superfine dubbing Black (chocolate is the other standard color) (A very sparse amount for a thin body, plus a touch for the head)
Krystal Flash (wing/shuck) Pearl flashabou (Two strands)
How to tie it
Start the thread and add a short length of extra-small wire on the shank as an underbody; the pattern doesn't want a thread body.
Load a very small amount of black superfine dubbing onto the thread. Keep the noodle thin, since any lumpiness will show on a fly this small.
Wrap the dubbing back to the rear and then forward, letting the body run slightly fatter at the back and thinner toward the front, the way black fly larvae taper. Fill in any gaps with a touch more dubbing.
Take two strands of pearl Krystal Flash, shoot them forward over the eye and take a couple of wraps to secure them on top of the hook.
Fold the flash back over the body and wrap over it again a couple of turns to lock it down pointing rearward.
Dub a little more black over the butts and thread to form the head; a turn behind the flash helps prop it up.
Whip finish, then gather the flash strands, take your scissors in just behind the bend and cut them at an angle so they finish as a short stub.
