How to tie it
Slide a gold bead to the eye, add a few optional wraps of lead-free wire behind it for weight, and start the thread.
Tie in a short tuft of hare's mask guard hairs at the bend as a tail, about one hook-gap long and spiky.
Bind in gold rib, then dub a rough hare's ear abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
Counter-wrap the gold rib forward in 4-5 open turns for segmentation and durability, and tie it off.
Tie a single strand of rubber leg across the shank so a leg sweeps out each side at the front of the thorax.
Dub a fatter, buggier thorax up to the bead. If using a wingcase, bind a slip of mottled turkey over the back first, dub the thorax, then pull the case forward over it and tie down behind the bead.
Whip finish behind the bead, cement, and pick out the thorax dubbing so the fly looks scruffy and alive.
