Hook Streamer hook, 2X heavy, 5XL, #4
Thread Black 8/0 (Veevus)
Materials
Uni-Mylar tinsel (body) Gold/silver, silver side out (One strand, size large)
Bucktail (underwing) White bucktail (A small unstacked bunch, about 50% longer than the hook)
Bucktail (wing) Kelly green (A small unstacked bunch, same length as the white)
Head cement Clear head cement (A drop)
How to tie it
Start the black thread with a few turns just behind the eye and tie in the mylar right there, well forward, so the whole shank in front of the body will sit on mylar.
Hold the mylar up at an angle and skid the thread back to the hook point, then bring the thread forward again. Deliberately ridged thread wraps are fine here: they facet the mylar and catch light.
Wrap the mylar back and then forward in touching turns, silver side out, holding it tight and running it all the way to the eye so no black shows.
Cut a small bunch of white bucktail, pull out the short fibers but do not stack it (ragged tips are the pattern), and measure it about 50 percent longer than the hook.
Pinch-loop the white bucktail on top of the shank, pull tight, and take a few wraps, checking it has stayed on top. Wrap forward, then back, and finish with a few soft turns at the rear of the head.
Cut a bunch of kelly green bucktail the same length, tie it in slightly back from the front so the head slopes, and take a few soft turns at the back of the head so the wing scrunches down and wraps around the body rather than standing proud.
