Materials
Lead-free wire Silver lead free wire (.025, wrapped on the shank and smashed flat with pliers (optional))
Goose biots (tail) To match the natural (Two)
Wire rib Silver wire (One length, four or five turns)
Rabbit dubbing (body) Black or to match the natural (Enough for a cigar-shaped abdomen)
Rabbit strip (loop-dubbed legs/thorax) To match the natural (A strip about 1/8 inch wide, hair trimmed from the hide)
Turkey quill (wing case and antennae) Natural mottled turkey quill (One section about 1/8 inch wide for a size 12)
How to tie it
Start the thread about halfway along the shank and wrap back to the barb. Dub a tiny ball of dubbing in one spot at the rear; this splits the biots.
Set two goose biots curved side out, one on each side of the dubbing ball, pinch and wrap so they flare apart in a proper V; trim the butts.
Tie in the silver wire rib at the rear, bind it down and get it out of the way. If you want the fly weighted, wrap.025 lead-free wire over the middle of the shank and squeeze it flat with pliers for a wide body and extra weight.
Dub a cigar-shaped black rabbit body forward, building it up as you go for proper taper, over about two-thirds of the shank.
Spiral the wire rib forward in four or five even turns, tie it off, and take a few extra thread wraps to anchor it.
Cut a turkey quill section about 1/8 inch wide, trim the front, and tie it in at the front of the abdomen with the natural curve of the quill turning up, so it will bend easily over the thorax later.
Form a dubbing loop at the front of the abdomen, taking a few wraps of the bobbin around the loop to close the gap. Load it with rabbit hair trimmed from a 1/8 inch strip, spread evenly, with the fibers long enough that the leg tips will reach the back of the hook; trim the thick butt ends short to reduce bulk.
Spin the loop up, stroke the fibers back, and wrap the rabbit thorax forward, stroking the fibers back on every turn until the loop is used up. Tie off, then part the fibers evenly on both sides.
Pull the turkey wing case over the thorax and tie it down behind the eye, keeping the legs spread evenly. Rather than adding separate biots, split the leftover wing case butts with your scissor blade into two, cut the middle section out, and you have two antennae.
