CDC puff (tail and wing) To match the natural (One puff, used for both the tail and the wing)
Lucent micro chenille (body) To match the natural (One short length)
Mini ostrich herl (head) To match the natural (One or two plumes)
How to tie it
Attach the thread and run it down to just above the barb, cutting off the tag.
Tie a CDC puff in at the rear very short, so only little stubs of the puff extend past the bend; trim the excess off but keep the cut-off piece for the wing.
Tie in the Lucent micro chenille at the rear, bind it down well and wrap it forward to the front third of the shank; tie it off and clip.
Take the reserved piece of CDC puff and tie it in at the front of the body, again cropped very short, so it stands as a stubby emerging wing bud; trim the butts.
Tie in one or two mini ostrich plumes at the front, trim the butts, and strip a little material off with your thumbnail if there is too much bulk.
Palmer the ostrich herl around the front in a few turns to form a soft head (use hackle pliers if the mini plumes are too short to hold; they are delicate, so wrap gently), then tie it off and clip.
