Zelon or Antron (trailing shuck) Natural / light dun zelon or antron (8-12 fibers, about a 1 inch piece)
Lucent micro chenille (abdomen) To match the natural (One short length)
Stretchy foam strip (shell back) To match the natural (One 1/8 inch wide strip)
Australian possum or beaver underfur (thorax) Natural hare s ear dubbing (A pinch of underfur with the guard hairs pulled out)
How to tie it
Attach the thread and run it back to right above the barb, cutting off the tag.
Take 8-12 fibers of Zelon or Antron, twist the clump on itself so it is easier to handle, and tie it in at the rear as a shuck. Trim it to about a shank length or a touch shorter, then untwist it or run your scissor point through it so the fibers spread apart.
Tie in the Lucent micro chenille at the rear and wrap it forward to the front third of the shank; tie it off and clip.
Cut a 1/8 inch strip of stretchy foam and tie it in at the front of the abdomen, laid flat on top of the shank, making sure it does not twist so it will pull straight over the top.
Pull the guard hairs out of a pinch of Australian possum or beaver and use the fine underfur to dub a deliberately full, bulky thorax over the front third.
Pull the foam forward over the top of the thorax and tie it off behind the eye; trim the excess.
Whip finish, then pick out some of the fur underneath with your scissor point or a dubbing needle to make the thorax buggier and trap more air.
