Wingcases Turkey tail, 3 sections cut to V (layered)
Antennae Black biots (2)
How to tie it
Mount a 3XL curved hook and wrap the full shank with lead wire, then bind it down and taper the thread over both ends.
Start black thread and wrap back to the bend.
Tie in two black goose biots splayed into a V as tails, half a shank length long.
Catch in black Swannundaze or D-Rib at the bend, flat side to the hook.
Dub a rough abdomen from blended black dubbing over the rear two thirds. Kaufmann's point was always that the blend — several colours mixed, not one flat black — is what makes the fly look alive.
Wrap the D-Rib forward over the abdomen in evenly spaced turns for hard segmentation and tie off.
Dub a thorax segment, then tie a section of turkey tail over it as the first wingcase. Repeat twice more so three cut-to-a-V wingcases overlap like plates.
Tie in two black biots as antennae, splayed forward over the eye.
