Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet fly hook, 8-12
  • Thread Green / olive 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Green hackle fibres (short)
  • Rib Gold tinsel (4-5 turns)
  • Body Green floss ('Highlander' bright green) (tapered)
  • Hackle Green hen (beard/collar)
  • Wing Bright green quill or dyed slips (pair)

How to tie it

  1. Start the thread and tie in a short green tail at the bend.
  2. Tie in the gold ribbing tinsel, then wind a smooth tapered body of bright green floss forward, stopping short of the eye.
  3. Spiral the gold rib forward in 4-5 even turns and tie off.
  4. Apply a green hen hackle as a beard beneath the shank (or a short collar).
  5. Set a matched pair of bright green wing slips low over the body; build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
