Classic Recipe

  • Hook Standard wet, 10-14

Materials

  • Tail GP crest (small)
  • Body Black seal or sub (dubbed)
  • Rib Silver oval (fine)
  • Body hackle Black, palmered (full)
  • Head hackle Brown hackle (collar)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run thread to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small golden pheasant crest as a tail, curving up, half a shank long.
  3. Catch in the fine silver oval rib and a black cock hackle by the tip, then dub a black seal-fur body forward to one-third behind the eye.
  4. Palmer the black hackle forward through the body in open turns, then follow with the oval rib the other way to lock the stem; tie off and snip.
  5. Tie in a brown hen hackle at the front and take 2-3 turns as a soft front collar, sweeping it back.
  6. Build a neat head, whip finish and varnish.
