How to tie it
Seat the gold tungsten bead at the eye, wrap 10-12 turns of.020 lead behind it, and jam them into the bead to lock everything. This is the large Copper-John-style stonefly (a spelling variant of Jumbo John).
Tie in two brown goose biots at the bend, splayed into a short V-tail.
Tie in one amber and one black wire at the bend and wrap them forward together as a two-tone segmented abdomen to the 60% mark; tie off and helicopter to break the wire.
Over the top tie in a Thin Skin strip and a peacock/orange Mylar strand for the flashback, both pointing back.
Dub a thick brown-stone thorax over the front third, stopping short of the bead.
Figure-8 a pair of barred rubber legs on each side; trim to a shank length.
Pull the Mylar flashback then the Thin Skin wing case forward over the thorax and tie both down behind the bead.
Wrap a speckled hen saddle collar of 1-2 turns and sweep it back.
Whip finish behind the bead, cement, and optionally coat the wing case with UV resin.
