Flashback / wingcase Medium Opal Mirage Tinsel (1 strand)
Wingcase & legs Gray or amber Fluoro Fiber (small clump)
Thorax Built up with rusty-brown 14/0 Veevus thread
Coating Solarez thin hard UV resin (1 coat)
How to tie it
Start the WHITE thread behind the eye and lay a smooth base back to the bend.
Tie in 6-8 mottled brown hen saddle fibers as a tail, one-half hook-gap long, at the bend.
Bundle 1 strand rusty-brown Superhair with 2 strands amber/golden-yellow Superhair. Tie in at the tail, tips pointing back, and bind the butts forward to the 65% point.
Lay one strand of Medium Opal Mirage Tinsel in at the thorax point, held forward over the eye (this becomes the flashback).
Twist the Superhair bundle into a tight cord and wrap it FORWARD in touching turns to build a slim segmented abdomen up to the 65% point; tie off and trim. The amber/rust blend gives the pale-morning-dun tone.
Whip finish the white thread and clip. Start the rusty-brown thread at the front of the abdomen.
Tie in the Fluoro Fiber across the shank for legs (equal amounts each side) and figure-eight to set.
Build a slightly bulbous thorax with the rusty-brown thread over the leg base.
Pull the Mirage Tinsel forward over the thorax to form the wingcase and tie off behind the eye; trim.
Sweep the Fluoro Fiber legs back along each side and trim to about one hook-gap.
Whip finish, then coat the wingcase/thorax with thin Solarez UV resin and cure.
