Juju Beatis Flashback

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/emerger hook (TMC 2488 style), 18-22
  • Thread White (underbody) and black (thorax) 70 denier / 14-0

Materials

  • Hen saddle or partridge fibers Mottled brown hen saddle fibers (3-4 (tail))
  • Super Hair Black (2 strands) + dark brown (1 strand) (3 strands (abdomen))
  • Pearl tinsel or Mirage flash Pearl flashabou (1 strip (flashback wing case))
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (over abdomen and wing case)

How to tie it

  1. Start white thread behind the eye and lay a smooth base to the bend; the white underbody makes the Super Hair colors show.
  2. Tie in 3-4 mottled brown fibers for a short split tail about half a shank long.
  3. Tie in the three Super Hair strands (two black, one brown) at the 60% mark and bind back to the bend.
  4. Wrap all three strands forward together in touching turns to form a slim, segmented abdomen; tie off at the 60% mark and trim.
  5. Coat the abdomen with a thin layer of clear UV resin and cure.
  6. Switch to black thread and tie in a strip of pearl Mirage flash forward over the eye for the flashback wing case.
  7. Build a slim black thorax to the eye, fold the pearl flash back over it, and tie down. The reflective wing case is the flashback twist on the standard fluoro-fiber version.
  8. Add a drop of UV resin over the flashback, cure, whip finish, and snip.
