Juan's Krypronite Caddis

Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 1X-short curved scud/pupa hook, 12-18
  • Thread Tan or brown 8/0

Materials

  • Tungsten bead Black bead (5/64-7/64)
  • Amnesia running line / mono Green (15 lb) (1 length (body))
  • CDC Natural or olive-brown cdc (1 feather (collar))
  • Hare's ear dubbing Natural hare s ear dubbing (small pinch (collar))
  • UV resin Clear uv resin (over body)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the black tungsten bead to the eye and start thread behind it. (Best tied assembly-line: wrap several green bodies at once on a single strand of amnesia.)
  2. Lash the green amnesia mono along the shank and wrap it forward in touching turns to build a smooth, translucent segmented body up to the 70% mark; tie off and trim.
  3. Coat the amnesia body with a thin layer of clear UV resin and cure for a glossy, glowing caddis-larva look.
  4. Tie in a CDC feather by the tip just behind the bead and take 1-2 wraps as a soft, breathing collar; sweep the fibers back.
  5. Dub a sparse pinch of natural hare's ear behind the bead to fill the collar and add a little life.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and snip.
