Juan's Bling Midge 2.0

Midge · Trout · Beginner · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved scud/pupa hook, 20-24
  • Thread Black 12/0

Materials

  • Tying thread (doubles as body) Black thread (1 spool)
  • Mirage/opal Flashabou Pearl opal mirage flashabou (1 strand (rib))
  • UV resin or head cement Clear uv resin (thin coat)

How to tie it

  1. Start the black thread behind the eye and wrap a smooth, slightly tapered body back to the bend and forward again, keeping it slim. Twist the thread now and then so it lies flat and glossy.
  2. At the bend, tie in one strand of opal Mirage Flashabou.
  3. Rib the flash forward in 5-6 evenly spaced open turns to segment the body, letting the black show between; tie off behind the eye and clip the excess.
  4. Build a small, neat thread head and whip finish.
  5. Coat the whole body and head with a thin layer of clear UV resin (or head cement) and cure for a wet, glassy shine.
