Pine squirrel zonker Rust pine squirrel zonker (1 short strip (claws))
Chewy worm chenille (small) Brown ultra fine chenille (1 length)
Micro flex-floss March brown (2-3 strands (legs))
How to tie it
Slide the slotted cone onto the jig hook BACKWARD so the wide face points at the eye, and jam it to the eye. The reversed cone keels the fly into a claws-up defensive crayfish pose.
Start thread behind the cone and lay a smooth base back to the bend.
At the bend, tie in a short strip of rust pine squirrel by the tip so the fur splays into two waving claws roughly half a shank long. Bind and trim the butt.
Tie in the worm chenille at the bend, then advance the thread to just behind the cone.
Wrap the chenille forward in 5-6 touching turns to build a plump body and tie off behind the cone.
Figure-8 two or three strands of flex-floss across the body about one-third back to splay legs out each side; trim legs to a shank length.
Whip finish against the back of the cone, snip, and add a drop of head cement at the thread collar.
