Materials
Tungsten or brass bead, 7/64 in. Black bead (1)
Uni-Stretch White uni stretch (A short piece for the gills plus enough for the underbody)
Micro stretch tubing (Wapsi) Wine (One length for the rib)
Flashabou #6916 Gunmetal gray flashabou (4 strands for the body)
UV resin Clear uv resin (A coat over the whole fly)
How to tie it
Put the black 7/64 bead on the hook, slide it back, and start the wine thread right behind the eye.
Tie a short piece of white Uni-Stretch in behind the eye for the gills, secure it, wrap back up tight behind the eye, slide the material back and whip finish. Cut the thread and trim the gills short.
Slide the bead forward against the gills.
With the Uni-Stretch, build the underbody: wrap it halfway down the shank, spinning it counterclockwise to keep it flat, then back up to the bead and half hitch behind the bead. Cut it off.
Restart the thread at the bottom of the taper and wind it up to just behind the bead, trimming the excess.
Tie in the wine micro stretch tubing right behind the bead, catch it by the very tip, then stretch it hard and bind it down to the bend of the hook.
Wet four strands of gunmetal gray Flashabou to kill the static and tie them in right where the tubing binding stops. Take the thread back up to just behind the bead, catching the tubing tag on the way and flattening everything smooth.
Wrap the RIB first: seven or eight evenly spaced turns of tubing up to behind the bead, then stretch it while you cut off the excess, pushing the thread out of the way with your other hand.
Now wind the Flashabou body forward in the gaps between the rib turns and finish it on top just behind the collar. Trim the excess.
Whip finish, cut the thread, coat the whole fly with UV resin and cure it under the light.
