Reference Recipe

  • Hook Articulated big-game shank + short-shank stinger hook, 3/0 (trailing) on a 3.5" articulated shank
  • Thread Purple 210 denier

Materials

  • Articulated big-game shank N/A (1, ~3.5")
  • Stinger/trailer hook N/A (1, 3/0)
  • Intruder wire or braid loop Black wire (1 loop)
  • Marabou (rear and front) Purple marabou (several plumes)
  • Schlappen or Fluoro Fibre / flash Purple / pink saddle hackle (several)
  • Chocklett's Finesse Body / palmer chenille collar Purple chenille (as needed)
  • Rubber legs Purple/black barred rubber legs (several)
  • Dumbbell or lead eyes (optional weight) Black mono eyes small (1)

How to tie it

  1. Rig the trailer hook on a wire or braid loop and lock it to the rear of the articulated shank, hook point riding up.
  2. On the rear of the shank, tie in stacked purple marabou plumes and a few strands of purple/pink flash for a long, breathing tail about the length of the shank.
  3. Build a palmered marabou or schlappen collar in front of the tail to bulk the rear body, sweeping fibers back on each turn.
  4. Connect the front shank (or continue on the same shank), then tie in more purple marabou and flash to layer the front body.
  5. Splay several barred rubber legs around the front body so they trail alongside for kicking action.
  6. Wind a dense marabou or chenille head collar, add optional weighted eyes at the front for a jigging dive, and sweep all fibers back.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and coat the thread head with cement or UV resin.
