Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook (TMC 413J style), 16
  • Thread Olive 70 denier

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Gold bead (1, sized to hook)
  • Z-Lon / Antron (tail and legs) Brown zelon (sparse)
  • Tying thread (abdomen) Olive thread (as needed)
  • Flashabou rib Pearl flashabou (1 strand)
  • UV resin (Loon Flow) Clear uv resin (thin coat)
  • Arizona Diamond / synthetic dubbing (thorax) Light olive sparkle dubbing (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the gold slotted bead at the eye and start olive thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a sparse tuft of brown Z-Lon at the bend for a short tail a half shank long.
  3. Bind in a strand of pearl Flashabou, then build a smooth, slim thread abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Rib the abdomen with 5-6 evenly spaced turns of Flashabou and tie off.
  5. Coat the abdomen with a thin layer of UV resin and cure. This adds weight and a translucent sheen, the signature of the fly.
  6. Tie a small clump of brown Z-Lon across the shank for splayed legs, then dub a small light-olive thorax over the tie-in and behind the bead.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
