Classic Recipe

  • Hook Saltwater, 1/0-2
  • Thread White or chartreuse 210D

Materials

  • Head Jiggy/cone head or tungsten cone (1)
  • Wing Bucktail, stacked stations (slim baitfish)
  • Flash Sparse (few strands)
  • Coating Epoxy or resin over thread (smooth)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the saltwater hook and slide the Jiggy/tungsten cone up to the eye, seating it firmly.
  2. Start thread behind the cone and build a small thread dam to keep the cone from sliding.
  3. Tie in a slim bucktail wing directly behind the cone as the first station, keeping it sparse for a baitfish profile.
  4. Add a few strands of flash, then tie in a second (and optional third) bucktail station behind the first so the wing tapers and layers down the shank.
  5. Wrap a smooth thread base over the tie-in area, then coat the head and thread with epoxy or UV resin for a smooth, durable finish.
  6. Whip finish under the cone before resining if needed, and cure the resin.
