Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook, 16
  • Thread Pale yellow or tan 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Copper or gold slotted tungsten bead (1, 2.5mm)
  • Coq de Leon fibers (tail) Speckled coq de leon fibers (3)
  • PMD / pale amber dubbing abdomen Pale amber dubbing (pinch)
  • Fine wire rib Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Darker thorax dubbing Brown-olive darker thorax dubbing (small pinch)
  • Pearl flashback (optional) Pearl flashabou (few strands)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted bead at the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in three Coq de Leon fibers for a tail a half shank long.
  3. Bind in fine copper wire and, if using, a strand of pearl flashback laid back over the shank, then dub a slim pale-amber abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Counter-rib with 5 open turns of copper wire and break off the tag.
  5. Dub a slightly darker brown-olive thorax behind the bead; if using flashback, pull it forward over the thorax and tie it down behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a tiny drop of cement.
