Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig nymph hook, 18
  • Thread Olive or brown 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Copper bead (1, 2.0mm)
  • Coq de Leon fibers (tail) Speckled tan coq de leon fibers (3-4)
  • Thread or fine Ice dub abdomen Olive-brown fine dubbing (as needed)
  • Fine wire rib Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Peacock or dark dubbing thorax Natural peacock herl (small pinch)
  • Hot-spot thread collar Fluorescent orange thread (few turns)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the small slotted bead at the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in 3-4 Coq de Leon fibers for a split or straight tail a half shank long.
  3. Bind in fine copper wire, then build a slim thread or thin-dubbed abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Counter-rib with 5 fine open turns of wire and break off the tag.
  5. Dub a small dark thorax behind the bead, then add 2 turns of fluorescent orange thread as a hot-spot collar right behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and add a tiny drop of UV resin or cement over the collar.
