Bead (head turner bead)
Rib Amber vinyl rib medium (small wire)
Tail and body Natural case (4-5 pheasant tail fibers)
Wing case (Mirage flash)
Thorax Canadian olive (Simi Seal dubbing)
Legs Natural rubber legs (4 pheasant tail fibers each side)
How to tie it
Slide a head turner bead onto a jig hook and start red thread. Tie in small amber wire, then four or five pheasant tail fibers at the rear.
Build a slight thread taper, then wind the pheasant tail forward almost to the bead, tie off and trim.
Counter-rib forward with the amber wire for segmentation, tie off and helicopter it out. Counter-wrapping is what keeps a pheasant tail body from unwinding after a couple of fish.
Flip the fly over in the vise so you are working on the top of a jig hook, then tie in a length of Mirage flash for the wing case.
Dub a noodle of Canadian olive Simi Seal and wrap a short thorax.
Tie four pheasant tail fibers in on each side as legs and trim them close with fine scissors, then pull the Mirage wing case over, tie it off, trim and whip finish.
