  • Hook Jig nymph hook, 2XL, 12
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Copper or black slotted tungsten bead (1, 3.0mm)
  • Pheasant tail or partridge fibers (tail) Brown hen hackle (3)
  • Wire rib Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Mayfly / hare's ear dubbing Amber-brown hare dubbing (pinch)
  • Wingcase feather or Thin Skin Brown/black wingcase feather or thin skin (1 slip)
  • Partridge soft hackle Brown hen hackle (1 feather)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted bead at the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in three brown fibers at the bend for a tail about a half shank long.
  3. Bind in copper wire, then dub a tapered amber-brown abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Counter-rib the abdomen with 5 open turns of copper wire and break off the tag.
  5. Tie in a wingcase slip pointing back, dub a robust thorax over the front, then fold the wingcase forward and pin it behind the bead.
  6. Wind one turn of brown partridge as legs, sweep the fibers back along the body.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and add a drop of cement.
