Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Copper bead (1, 2.5mm)
  • Pheasant tail fibers Natural pheasant tail fibers (3-4)
  • Fine wire rib Copper wire (1 strand)
  • Pearl Flashback / Mirage tinsel Pearl flashabou (few strands)
  • Peacock herl or dubbing Natural peacock herl (1-2 herls)
  • CDC feather Natural dun cdc feather (1)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted bead at the eye and start thread behind it.
  2. Tie in 3-4 pheasant tail fibers at the bend so the tips form a tail a half shank long.
  3. Bind in copper wire and a strand or two of pearl tinsel, then wrap the pheasant tail forward to the 60% mark and tie off.
  4. Counter-rib with 4-5 open turns of copper wire and break off the tag.
  5. Pull the pearl tinsel forward over the top as a flashback and leave it hanging for now, then dub or wrap a peacock thorax.
  6. Fold the flashback over the thorax and tie it down behind the bead, then wind one turn of CDC as a soft, breathing collar and sweep the fibers back.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead and add a tiny drop of cement.
