Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig streamer hook, 2XL, 10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Slotted tungsten bead Black or copper slotted tungsten bead (1, 3.3mm)
  • Marabou Black or olive marabou (1 plume)
  • Krystal Flash Pearl or peacock herl (4-6 strands)
  • Chenille or Ice dub Black or olive chenille ice dub (for body)
  • Saddle hackle Black or olive saddle hackle (1 feather)
  • Fine wire (to counter-wrap hackle) Copper fine wire (1 strand)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the slotted bead at the eye and start thread behind it, base-wrapping to the bend.
  2. Tie in a marabou tail one shank length long, then flank it with 4-6 strands of Krystal Flash to tail length.
  3. Catch in a hackle by its tip at the bend and a length of copper wire, then tie in the chenille or dubbing.
  4. Build the body forward to just behind the bead.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward in 6-7 open evenly spaced turns, then counter-wrap the wire the other way to lock it and helicopter off the tag.
  6. Sweep any front fibers back, build a small thread head, whip finish behind the bead, and add a drop of cement.
