Materials

  • Head Turner tungsten bead Orange slotted tungsten bead (1)
  • Marabou Black marabou (Generous clump)
  • UV Crystal Flash (2 strands)
  • Straggle chenille, 5mm Black estaz (Body)

How to tie it

  1. Set a jig hook with an orange tungsten Head Turner bead and start black thread.
  2. Tie a generous clump of black marabou in along the full length of the shank, throw a few wraps underneath to prop the tail up, and pinch it to about a body and a half in length. Binding it the full length keeps the underbody even for the chenille to sit on.
  3. Add two strands of UV Crystal Flash on either side of the shank as tail highlights and trim them even with the marabou. UV flash gives the tail a trigger point without turning it into a flash fly.
  4. Tie in 5mm black Straggle chenille at the rear.
  5. Wind the Straggle straight up the shank to the bead to form the body. Straggle fibres stand off in every direction, so a single material gives you body, legs and movement at once.
  6. Tie off and whip finish. Simple pattern, but certainly a one. Fish it slow on a sinking line or hang it under an indicator.
