Mid Wing Bottom and sides: White Polar Fiber
How to tie it
Start the white Nano Silk about a third of the way back from the jig head and trim the tag; this base carries the eyes. Seat 6mm silver 3D eyes on top of the hook at the front of that base with figure-8 wraps and lock them with thin head cement.
Comb out a section of White Polar Fiber and trim it close to the base to get the full fiber length. Bind it in from underneath starting at the base of the eyes and wrap back along the straight portion of the shank, then bring the thread forward again and snip the excess.
Divide a small clump of Pearl Ice Dub Shimmer Fringe evenly and bind it on top behind the eyes, level with the polar fiber, trimming the butts square. Add evenly divided Blue Polar Fiber on top of the Shimmer Fringe with its tips slightly longer, and bind it back along the threaded area.
Split the thread, wax both sides and load Silver Ice Dub loosely, then double the thread over twice on the dubbing twister and spin. Brush the noodle out thoroughly to thin the bulk before wrapping, then wrap it forward in tight turns to the eyes, sweeping the fibers back after each wrap. Tie off in front of the eyes, trim, and whip finish.
Mid wing: bind a prepared section of White Polar Fiber in from underneath flush with the eyes, then one bunch along each side. Split a section of Charcoal Grey Polar Fiber over the top so the fibers fall either side of the shank and bind it behind the eye. Whip finish, trim flush, build the thread over the butts and cement.
Spin a second split-thread noodle of Silver Ice Dub, brush it out, and wrap it forward edge to edge to the eyes, wrapping between the eyes before tying off in front. Whip finish, brush the dubbing out and sweep the fibers back.
Wing in front of the eyes: bind White Polar Fiber in from underneath, slightly shorter than the previous wing for taper, and Charcoal Grey Polar Fiber on top opposite it. Trim flush, whip finish, then take a dozen or so wraps behind the eyes to gather all the fibers top, bottom and sides.
Lateral line: trim a small section of Pink Ice Dub Shimmer Fringe close to the base, even the ends, and bind one along each side of the wing at the collar. Add about six strands of silver Flashabou per side, wetted so the strands stay together, trimmed shorter than the main wing.
Collar: wrap Red Thread over the white collar, whip finish, trim and cement. Once completely dry, coat the wrap with 5-minute epoxy.
Switch to 24/0 white Nano Silk, start it and wrap back to the base of the wing. Spin a Pearl Ice Dub split-thread noodle, brush it out, and wrap it forward edge to edge from the wing base; tie off, trim, brush out and pull the fibers back over the eyes.
Front wing: White Polar Fiber underneath, Charcoal Grey Polar Fiber on top opposite it, then Blue Polar Fiber over the grey, each bunch slightly shorter than the one before to hold the taper.
Side wings: prep two silver badger hackles, tips shorter than the main wing, stripped level and with the bottom half of the fibers peeled from the stem, matched back to back. Flatten each stem and bind one along the wing above the eyes on each side, fold the stems back over and bind them again. Top with six strands of peacock herl split three per side, tips slightly longer than the main wing. Build the thread, whip finish, add thin head cement, and once dry cover the head with 5-minute epoxy.
