Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig hook (Fulling Mill), 10
  • Thread Black 8/0

Materials

  • Slotted bead Silver, 3.2mm (1)
  • Marabou Black or natural marabou (1 pinch (tail))
  • Crystal Flash Purple flash fibres (2 (one per side of tail))
  • Ultra Wire Silver, small (1 strand (rib))
  • Dubbing blend Purple/red with black angora (1 body)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the silver bead on, start the thread behind it and run it to the bend.
  2. Pinch a few marabou fibers and tie in the larger ends for the tail at the bend.
  3. Add one strand of purple crystal flash to each side of the tail.
  4. Tie in small silver ultra wire at the bend for the rib.
  5. Dub a blend of purple, red and black (with angora) onto the thread, spinning it tight every few wraps, and build the body forward to the bead.
  6. Counter-wrap the wire rib forward in about five open turns to segment and reinforce the body, then secure and helicopter off the excess.
  7. Whip finish behind the bead, then pick out the dubbing with velcro to give the body a buggy, breathing profile.
