Classic Recipe

  • Hook Curved buzzer/grub hook (Kamasan B100 or Fulling Mill barbless grub), #10-12, #10-12
  • Thread Brown 70-80 denier / 8-0

Materials

  • Body Cock pheasant tail fibers, natural brown. Wrapped as a slim body (3-4 fibers)
  • Rib Fine copper wire or pearl holographic tinsel (5 in)
  • Shellback Pearl Mylar/tinsel strip over the thorax (1 strip)
  • Thorax Red holographic tinsel / red holo dubbing (or peacock) (small pinch)
  • Breathers / cheeks White Antron or poly yarn, small tufts at head (2 small tufts)

How to tie it

  1. Start the brown thread and catch in 3-4 natural cock pheasant-tail fibers by the tips at the bend.
  2. Wind the pheasant-tail fibers forward as a slim, segmented body to about the 70% point and tie off. This PT body is the 'Muskins' element (a pheasant-tail/buzzer cross).
  3. Rib the body with fine copper wire (or pearl tinsel) in 5-6 open turns for durability and segmentation.
  4. Tie in a pearl Mylar shellback strip at 70%, then build a small red holographic thorax over the front 30%.
  5. Pull the pearl shellback over the red thorax and tie down behind the eye for a bright target point.
  6. Add two small white Antron breather tufts at the head, trim short, whip finish, and varnish the head and shellback.
