Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig hook with turned-up eye (Umpqua Parity), 16
  • Thread Orange 70 denier

Materials

  • Tungsten bead To taste (3.5-4 mm)
  • Coq de Leon fibers (tail) Natural coq de leon fibers (small clump)
  • Semperfli gel-core micro fritz (body) Dark brown semperfli gel core micro fritz (1 length)
  • Ice dub (veil) UV brown ice dub (small pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a large tungsten bead onto a size 16 jig hook and start the orange thread.
  2. Tie in a short Coq de Leon fiber tail at the bend.
  3. Tie in the gel-core micro fritz behind the bead, wrap it to the bend and back forward to the bead, and tie off.
  4. Pinch a small amount of UV brown ice dub on top, take two or three loose turns then cinch, sweep it back over the body as a veil, and break it to length.
  5. Build a few turns of thread as a hot spot behind the bead, whip finish, and add super glue or resin.
