Salmon/Steelhead · Steelhead · Salmon · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry/terrestrial (Chernobyl-style), 8
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Thin foam strip Tan/gold foam (1 Chernobyl-style strip)
  • Round rubber legs Assorted/tan-brown rubber legs (a large bunch)
  • EP fibers Natural/tan ep fibers (1 clump for wing)
  • Super glue - (for body and head)

How to tie it

  1. Place the hook in the vise and lay down a thread base.
  2. Tie a Chernobyl-style foam strip down at the middle of the shank, then again near the head, cross-wrapping to form body segments; trim the front foam end.
  3. Add a drop of super glue under the foam to keep it from twisting on the shank.
  4. Tie in a large bunch of rubber legs along each side of the body so the fly bristles with legs.
  5. Move the thread to the head, keeping the legs out of the way, and tie a clump of EP fibers on top as a wing.
  6. Trim the head foam square and trim the wing to length, then add a little glue to the head and the wing tie-in point.
  7. Whip finish and trim the thread.
